The Menifee Teachers Association endorses Xavier Padilla, Bob O’Donnell and Kenyon Jenkins for seats on the MUSD governing board in November. Here’s some information about each candidate:

 Xavier Padilla

Ask anyone who has ever worked with Xavier Padilla, and they will tell you he puts students first. You can see this with his work as a counselor, with disadvantaged youth, and his soccer coaching.  As a counselor in the Perris Union High School District, Padilla will serve as an invaluable liaison between Menifee and Perris as we pursue unification. All these experiences make him the Menifee Teachers’ top choice for School Board Representative in Area One.

Padilla has lived in Menifee since 2004. He has worked for the district in various capacities at numerous school sites. These experiences give him valuable insight into the operations of our district.  He’s witnessed the changes in our school district. His son went through Menifee schools and Padilla credits Menifee with preparing his son for high school and college. He recognizes the ongoing growth of the district and would like to see it reach its full potential, enhancing the overall value of Menifee itself.

Our district is facing unprecedented challenges, and we need someone with experience, wisdom, and compassion to take charge in confronting and solving those challenges. When Padilla is elected to the school board, he will work to ensure students have what they need to succeed. He will make certain that the voices of students, their families, their teachers, and staff are heard. Vote for Xavier Padilla Area 1.

Bob O'Donnell

Bob O’Donnell is a 47-year resident of Menifee. His life is one of service. His commitment to our community is apparent through involvement with Menifee Valley Medical Center, Hospice of the Valley, and Menifee Crime Watch.  Because of his relationships throughout the city, O’Donnell will continue to foster communication among the district office, schools, families, and organizations in Menifee. His many years of experience and knowledge of education will continue to serve as an asset on the school board, as he uses that experience along with input from all stakeholders to make the best educational decisions for all students.

His dedication to improving children’s lives through education is evident in his endeavors to put students first. O’Donnell, a father of seven and a grandfather of 14, understands that educational needs vary, and the district must be ready and equipped to deal with a multitude of  challenges, especially in this modern era. In the past, he fought to keep music programs alive and to provide more counselors to schools.  MTA trusts that O’Donnell, Area 2, will continue to fight for the needs of all students in the Menifee Union School District.

Kenyon Jenkins

Kenyon Jenkins, the Area 5 incumbent, is a driving force on the Menifee Union School District Board. His sound judgement, extensive business background, and “no nonsense” approach to difficult issues has proved to be a tremendous asset to students, teachers, and the Menifee community.

Jenkins has served with strength and integrity for the past two years as the Area 5 school board member. He advocates for special needs students by strengthening partnerships with the educational community. An experienced business leader, Jenkins monitors and helps guide the district budget to benefit and support students. His leadership has brought about transparency in the district’s budget reporting and analysis.  Future developer contracts are being revised, and a focus on unified communication between the educational community is being accomplished.

Kenyon is an 18-year resident of Menifee and an active community volunteer. He is a proponent of district unification and is a member of the MUSD Board’s Unification Committee, Budget Committee, and the Measure-Q Oversight Committee.

“The school board’s role is to uphold the overall direction, goals, and mission statement of the Menifee Union School District. We do this by putting families first, properly supporting teachers and staff, and communicating the goals to the superintendent to uphold the board’s vision.”

-- Kenyon W. Jenkins
