A Menifee man died from injuries sustained Wednesday night when he was struck by a vehicle while walking across the street, authorities said.
A Menifee Police Department officer was on duty at 7:17 p.m. near the intersection of Rockport Road and Laguna Vista Drive and observed the traffic collision, according to a Menifee PD news release. The officer notified dispatch and began assessing the pedestrian’s injuries. The pedestrian, age 75, was transported to Inland Valley Medical Center, where he died from his injuries. The victim’s name has not been released.
The investigation showed that a vehicle had stopped at the stop sign on westbound Rockport Road. In traveling through the intersection, the vehicle struck the pedestrian, who was traveling northbound in the crosswalk, according to the news release. The man was knocked to the ground and suffered severe head trauma.
The driver of the vehicle, a 59-year-old Menifee resident, remained on scene and cooperated with the authorities. The cause of the collision remains under investigation. There is no suspected alcohol or drug use involved at this time.
