More than $3,600 has been raised through donations for a 15-year-old Menifee boy who was critically injured when he was struck by a vehicle on Newport Road July 7.
Nyree Dawn, the boy's mother, told Menifee 24/7 that her son Romello "is moving his body a lot more today. He's still not opening his eyes yet. They are doing tests to see if he can breathe without the ventilator; yesterday he went three hours. We are trying again now and he is breathing great so far."
The only injury Romello suffered was to his brain. He did not suffer any broken bones or other injuries when struck by a vehicle as he walked across Newport Road about 1:45 a.m. July 7. According to the Menifee Police Department, Romello was struck by a Honda passenger car traveling east on Newport and was thrown into the eastbound lanes of traffic. The driver of the vehicle stopped at the scene and cooperated with law enforcement. Neither speed, intoxication nor distracted driving were considered to be factors.
