A male transient faces three felony charges following his capture Thursday night regarding a robbery at a Menifee business, authorities said.
Sheriff's deputies responded at 8:30 p.m. to a report of robbery at the Stater Bros. Market at 25904 Newport Road, cross street Murrieta Road, according to a news release. Officers were told that the suspect, later identified as 31-year-old Devin Moore, stole a bottle of liquor from the store and threatened to assault an employee with it when he was confronted.
Moore was located on Newport Road but ran from deputies and was struck by a vehicle before continuing into an adjacent field. A lengthy search was conducted. Eventually, the suspect was seen walking out of the field by a sergeant handler of a K-9. The suspect assaulted the sergeant with a grocery cart and ran before being taken into custody after a short foot pursuit.
Moore, who was not injured in the traffic collision, was booked into the Southwest Detention Center in Murrieta. He faces felony charges of second degree robbery, assault on a police officer and resisting arrest. He has a May 12 court date in Murrieta.
Anyone with additional information is urged to call the Riverside County Sheriff’s dispatch at 951-776-1099, or the Perris Sherrif's Station at 951=210-1000.
