Riverside County residents will have to wait a few more days to learn whether any COVID-19 restrictions will be relaxed or removed.
The Riverside County Board of Supervisors met for nearly 11 hours Tuesday and listened to dozens of public speakers, many of whom requested that the Supervisors approve an agenda item that would rescind four orders given by Public Health Officer Cameron Kaiser last week. Finally, Supervisors voted to continue the discussion in a special meeting Friday at 1 p.m.
Hundreds of residents stood outside as the meeting started, protesting Kaiser's extension of orders requiring use of face coverings and social distancing -- orders that are keeping many businesses from re-opening and residents from moving more freely outside.
The action item was authored by Supervisors Karen Spiegel and V. Manuel Perez. Delaying action on that item allows Supervisors to consider changes in state orders scheduled to yr outlined by Gov. Gavin Newsom on Thursday.
