Menifee's Ximines to perform Sunday on live 'American Idol'

Olivia Ximines, the 16-year-old from Menifee who has made the final 20 in 'American Idol', will perform on Sunday's 8 p.m. ABC live telecast for the chance to make the top 10. And she will do it from the comfort of her own home.

To comply with safety mandates because of the COVID-19 pandemic, Sunday's show will be produced remotely. All 20 remaining contestants will perform their chosen song from home, with musical instruments allowed but obviously no band or audience. Judges Lionel Richie, Katy Perry and Luke Bryan will view the perormances and make comments from their own homes. Then voting will be open to fans, with the results of the top 10 being announced the following Sunday.

Each person will be allowed to vote 30 times using three different means:

-- The American Idol app
-- The American Idol website
-- Text messages to a number given to each contestant following their performance.

"We seek your support and all of Menifee," wrote Olivia's mother, Dr. Sandra Stewart-Ximines, in a message to Menifee 24/7. "It would be nice to have our small hometown girl in the top 10."
