A suspect is in custody and facing an attempted murder charge after a Menifee man was assaulted in a local neighborhood Sunday night, authorities said.

Joshua Denbo, 26, is being held at the Robert Presley Detention Center with bail set at $1 million, according to Sheriff’s Corporal Lionel Murphy. Denbo is accused of beating the victim in the head with a hard object.

The incident occurred at about 5:41 p.m. in the 27000 block of El Puente Street. The adult male victim was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of a head injury. The suspect fled the scene prior to deputies’ arrival but was later contacted and taken into custody.
