Groundbreaking for the county library to be built at the corner of Menifee Road and La Piedra Road will take place April 2.
Cheryl Kitzerow, community development director for the City of Menifee, made the announcement at last week's Planning Commission meeting. She is involved with the project from a City planning standpoint, but the library is being paid for by the County through a privately issued lease revenue tax exempt bond structure, a county official said when the planning of the library was announced in August.
“The new library facility will be delivered to the County through the P3 Project deal structure, specifically through a ground lease and facilities lease,” said Suzanne Holland, assistant director for the Riverside County Economic Development Agency. The project was approved by the County Board of Supervisors last April.
The library will include approximately 20,000 square feet of space. Areas will include adult, teen, and children areas, group study/quiet rooms, marketplace and an opportunity room and community room, along with staff workrooms and library branch offices, Holland said.
The parcel, owned by the County, is a dirt lot that has been used in the past to park cars for those attending events at Wheatfield Park across the street.
The new library will give Menifee residents an alternative to the Sun City Library, which is one of the busiest libraries in the county.
