Story has been updated with rescheduling of Menifee Valley Chamber of Commerce mixer.
Schools and organizations in Menifee continue to monitor developments in the coronavirus outbreak, and some events have been cancelled out of an abundance of caution.
The Perris Union High School District, which governs Paloma Valley and Heritage high schools, announced on its website that although the immediate risk to the general public is low, the district has canceled upcoming open houses, pep rallies, school dances, large-scale gatherings and all "non-essential field trips."
On Monday, a statement from the Menifee Union School District stated that it continues to increase custodial manpower for cleaning of door knobs and surfaces, including desks. Additional supplies and training in disinfection are being provided to staff members.
An announcement from the Romoland School District indicates that similar precautions are being taken.
The Menifee Valley Chamber of Commerce announced early this afternoon that its monthly business mixer, scheduled for Wednesday night, was cancelled. It was to be held at Gladwell Menifee Valley, an assisted living facility on Valley Boulevard in Sun City. Later in the afternoon, the event was rescheduled for Buffalo Wild Wings on Haun Road.
According to the Chamber's announcement, "Gladwell Menifee Valley has cancelled all meetings of 10 or more people to decrease the risk of coronavirus in their senior residents."
Meanwhile, Murrieta Valley High School will re-open Wednesday after two days of closure while a school employee who was exposed to the coronavirus was tested. That employee tested negative and the school has been deep cleaned and disinfected, district officials said.
Saturday's announcement of the school closure included the fact that 71 students who may have been exposed to the employee were ordered to self-quarantine. Today's update from the Murrieta Valley Unified School District stated that those students were no longer required to be quarantined and may return to school with the other students.
