To address the questions and concerns of high school students and their parents regarding the impact of COVID-19, Perris Union High School District released the following statement:
"We know many of our families, especially our seniors, are concerned about events such as prom, Grad Nite and other senior activities. We are diligently working to reschedule these events for dates in May. While we are hoping school will reopen in May and activities can resume, we must still follow the direction of State and County Public Health Officers.
"As it relates to graduation ceremonies, no decision has been made at this time. However, if we are not able to hold graduation ceremonies as planned, we will work to reschedule to a later date when students, parents, families, and friends can participate.
"We will continue to provide regular updates regarding this and other Coronavirus (COVID-19) related topics through our website and social media."
Candace Reines, deputy superintendent of PUHSD, told Menifee 24/7 that district officials continue to operate under the assumption that schools will re-open May 1, based on the mandate that schools remain closed through April 30.
"We're hoping we know something more about that timeline from the health department by mid-April," Reines said.
