Local school districts began this afternoon to post notices on their websites confirming the Riverside County Public Health Officer's order that all schools in the county will remain closed until April 30.
News of Dr. Cameron Kaiser's order was first reported this morning by news agencies with knowledge of Kaiser's announcement to the County Board of Supervisors. There has been no separate statement on this from the health department, but the order was included in this paragraph of the department's COVID-19 news release dated today:
"Kaiser has also ordered the closure of all Riverside County schools from elementary to college until April 30. He also has recommended that senior citizens and those with underlying health conditions in the Coachella Valley avoid any non-essential travel. The orders have impacted religious services, weddings, sporting events and classrooms countywide."
That news release also reports that three people in Riverside County have died from coronavirus -- all in Coachella Valley -- and that the first two cases in western Riverside County have been reported. Details on those individuals have not been released. You can read that news release here.
Following are the website announcements that have been posted so far on the websites of Menifee Union School District or Perris Union High School District. Romoland School District is expected to post a similar announcement soon. This order includes colleges. Mt. San Jacinto College's latest website announcement can be found here.
School district officials urge parents of students to be patient while they work on plans to provide the best distance/online learning opportunities possible. Menifee 24/7 will continue to check with those officials and will post updates as they become available.
