A GoFundMe site has been organized for the family of a Menifee man who was killed Tuesday night when struck by a vehicle near the intersection of Highway 74 and Menifee Road in the Romoland community.
Ruperto Baiza, 27, leaves behind three daughters, said his girlfriend Nadia Ortiz, who is expecting the couple's fourth child. She said they lived in the Romoland community in Menifee and that she did not know where Baiza was headed when he was struck by the vehicle while walking alone just after 8 p.m.
"Ruperto was a happy person," wrote his sister, Virginia Mata, on the GoFundMe site. "He lit up the room with his smile, always making jokes. He loved his family very much, especially his daughters. They where his life.
"My brother was accidentally killed yesterday by a car. We are asking to please find it in your hearts to help for his funeral cost. Thank you so much!"
The incident was reported at 8:08 p.m., according to Sheriff's Deputy Robyn Flores. The driver of the vehicle remained on scene and cooperated with police. DUI does not appear to be a factor. No other details were available.
