A Menifee woman faces 14 felony counts including burglary and grand theft for allegedly stealing more than $537,000 in cash and property from a company she worked for, according to court records.
Nancy Francine Doss, 65, is being held at the Larry D. Smith Correctional facility in Banning with bail set at $500,000, jail records show. She has been in police custody since being arrested at her home in the Sun City community on Nov. 26. Doss is scheduled to appear in court Feb. 6 at Southwest Justice Center in Murrieta.
Doss is accused of burglarizing a Temecula construction business on six occasions over a three-year period from 2015-18, court records show. She worked at the company as office manager, according to her profile on LinkedIn. During those illegal entries of the business, Doss stole cash and property in amounts ranging from $5,000 to $81,000. The felony counts include embezzlement and forgery in addition to grand theft and burglary.
Legal documents also show that Doss used several aliases, including Nancy Snyder and Nancy F. Fegel. She faces an aggravated white collar crime enhancement for "fraud or embezzlement, which involved a pattern of related felony conduct, and this pattern of related felony conduct involved the taking of more than $500,000."
Two of Doss' felony counts charge her with unlawfully accessing a computer system and altering, damaging or destroying data.
Doss served as principal officer of the Sun City Lawn Bowls Club and attended meetings as recently as October, a source said. She was also treasurer of the Southwest Women's Division of Lawn Bowls USA. She has not been charged with any theft from those organizations.
Represented by a public defender during a Jan. 14 court appearance, Doss requested a continuance of her case but waived the 60-day waiting period for a preliminary hearing, court records show.
"She flaunted all the jewelry she had, the vehicles she bought, the trips she took," said an acquaintance who asked not to be identified. "Every time she got in a group setting, she would brag about everything she bought and did. She remodeled two bathrooms, bought a Cadillac, and two years later when a new model came out, she bought another one. She would post pictures on Facebook."
The acquaintance said others assumed she was using money inherited following the death of her father.
"How she thought she would get away it, I don't know," the source said.
