Story updated with detail about vehicle's approach to the front doors.
A Menifee man was arrested for DUI and felony vandalism today after driving his vehicle up to the front doors of a local business and damaging property inside, police said.
Deputies responded at 12:52 a.m. to the Walgreens store at Newport Road and Murrieta Road, according to a Sheriff's Department news release. The subject, identified as Preston Quine, was detained. A check of store surveillance video showed Quinn vandalizing sales equipment and product displays.
The initial Sheriff's Department report didn't specify whether the vehicle actually crashed into the front doors o the store. In response to a media inquiry, Deputy Robyn Flores sent this response:
"The reporting parties said the vehicle crashed into the building. When deputies got there, the driver had stopped his vehicle 1 inch from the doors. The doors were motion activated and his vehicle bumper was inside of the doors, but had not collided with them."
In addition to DUI and felony vandalism, Quine was arrested for driving on a suspended license. He was transported to a hospital for treatment and then booked into the Cois Byrd Detention Facility in Murrieta.
