An early morning fire caused damage to the facade and roof of a business in the Cherry Hills Plaza today, but businesses were not yet open and there were no injuries.
Cal Fire reported a commercial structure fire at 5:31 a.m. in the center, located in the 28000 block of Bradley Road in the Sun City Community. The business was later identified as the A Plus Urgent Care facility. Heavy smoke and flames were reported.
Firefighters knocked down the flames quickly, but the result was "extensive salvage in the lower units" below the facade, according to a fire department report. The fire was contained at 6:09 a.m.
A Subway sandwich shop next door remained closed at 10 a.m. because of minimal water damage, said an employee. On the other side of the affected business, an employee of the YoJo Coffee & Frozen Yogurt shop said that business opened about three hours late but otherwise was conducting business as usual.
Both employees said they were told the incident started with an electrical fire behind a sign on the facade.
