Suspect in multiple bank robberies arrested in Canyon Lake

A Canyon Lake man believed to be responsible for nine bank robberies in Lake Elsinore, Wildomar, Murrieta and other Southland cities was arrested on Wednesday after another bank robbery attempt, authorities said.

Donovan Dintelman, 47, is being held in Southwest Detention Center in Murrieta with bail set at $500,000. He faces 11 felony robbery counts and five misdemeanor counts, including theft and drug charges. His court date is set for Dec. 5.

Lake Elsinore Sheriff's detectives have been investigating the robberies since an incident in June, according to a news release. In each case, the suspect entered grocery stores that contained banks and robbed the banks. The latest occurred Nov. 15 in a market in the 29000 block of Canyon Hills Drive in Lake Elsinore.

The same suspect attempted to rob a bank in Chino Hills on Wednesday, police said. After obtaining a license plate identification for the suspect vehicle, officers served a search warrant in the 23000 block of Compass Drive in Canyon Lake.

Dintelman was arrested without incident near that location.
