A police chase south on the 215 Freeway and over surface streets on Menifee was heard by residents and watched by many on live television before two armed burglary suspects were taken into custody Friday night.
The incident began just before 9 p.m. when Sheriff's deputies responded to the report of an armed burglary in the 21000 block of Harvill Avenue in Mead Valley, Deputy Mike Vasquez said. Officers located the suspect vehicle, described as an older model SUV, and attempted a traffic stop but the vehicle fled.
This began a police chase that included pursuits north on the 215 Freeway, west on the 60 Freeway, then south on the 215 Freeway. CHP and Sheriff's Department vehicles chased the vehicle onto Menifee streets, with one witness reporting on the Menifee 24/7 Facebook page that the suspect vehicle was driving only on rims when it narrowly missed his vehicle at Antelope Road and Scott Road.
After multiple pit maneuvers by police, the vehicle finally became disabled on Craig Avenue near Hanover Lane in Menifee. The female passenger was taken into custody there and the male driver fled on foot. He was found hiding in a home in the 28000 block of Northmoore Place near Greenview Way and was taken into custody. There were no reported injuries.
The identities of the suspects have not been released.
