Eight student-athletes who accepted college athletic scholarships were honored Wednesday at Paloma Valley High School. |
Eight senior student-athletes from Paloma Valley High School were recognized on Wednesday as they signed letters of intent, formally accepting college athletic scholarships.
Friends and family cheered the athletes on as they sat on a stage in the school's theater. They were introduced by athletic director Ryan Sharp, who pointed out that they were all part of a 2018-19 school year in which Paloma Valley won more league titles combined than any other school in Riverside or San Bernardino counties.
This was the early signing period for high school seniors. More athletes will sign during a later signing period in February.
Those honored Wednesday were:
Gabby Hollins
Portland State
Hollins finished the 2019 season with a team-high 372 kills for the girls volleyball team, helping lead the Wildcats to a 30-8 overall record. For the second straight year, the team made it into the CIF Southern Section finals as well as the state tournament. She also finished with 194 digs, second on the team.
Jennifer (Liz) Markovska
Cal Poly San Luis Obispo
Joining the Wildcats girls volleyball team in midseason after transferring over from Heritage High, Markovska immediately made an impact in helping lead the Wildcats back to the CIF finals. She had 251 kills, third best on the team, including 25 in the CIF Southern Section championship match against Ontario Christian.
Marissa Doria
William Jewel College
Doria starred for the girls cross country team for four years, serving as team captain this fall. She placed in the top 20 finishers in the prestigious Sunny Hills Invitational. During this time, she has also maintained a 4.0 GPA. Doria will go on to play for the girls soccer team and then the girls track team before departing high school. She will compete in both cross country and track in college.
Henry Proger
Lane Community College
Proger led the Wildcats baseball team with a .451 batting average last spring, helping lead the team to a 19-9 overall record. He also drove in 10 runs and finished with a 1.000 fielding percentage as a first baseman and outfielder.
Owen Pendergast
Lane Community College
Another key member of the Paloma Valley baseball team last spring, Pendergast hit .306 with 11 RBIs and 2 doubles. He is preparing for another season at second base for the Wildcats.
Jeralynn Wells
Western Carolina University
Wells served as one of the softball team's captains while playing center field last spring. She hit .370 with 11 RBIs and 4 doubles in helping lead the Wildcats to a 19-9 overall record.
Nicole Dallin
University of Arizona
Dallin played a key role for the girls soccer team last winter. The season before, she scored 54 goals as a sophomore in helping lead the Wildcats to a 24-0-3 season and the school's first CIF Southern Section title.
Samantha Ritchie
Ritchie also had standout seasons the last two years for the girls soccer team, which has become one of the Wildcats' top programs.
