Paloma Valley High moved one step closer to a possible rematch with Ontario Christian in the CIF-SS girls volleyball finals Wednesday night, beating Fountain Valley in straight sets in a quarterfinal match on the road.
The Wildcats won by scores of 25-21, 25-18 and 25-22, advancing to the Division 3 semifinals. Paloma Valley will be at home against Pasadena Poly in a 6 p.m. match on Saturday. The winner will play the winner of the semifinal between Ontario Christian and Culver City on Nov. 9 in the CIF finals. Ontario Christian defeated Paloma Valley in that round last year.
Gwen Poulsen (right, in an earlier match) was a key player in Wednesday's victory, finishing with 13 digs. Lizzy Markovska finished with 18 kills and 11 digs. Gabby Hollins had 12 kills and Jayde Shelton had 11.
Paloma Valley improved its overall record to 29-6. Pasadena Poly comes into Saturday's match with a perfect 22-0 record.
