Officials investigating attack on teacher at Paloma Valley

School district and law enforcement officials are investigating an incident at Paloma Valley High School Monday in which they report that three students attacked a teacher during lunch hour.

The incident began as a verbal altercation and escalated to a physical altercation, said Candace Reines, deputy superintendent of the Perris Union High School District, on Monday. There were no major injuries, but two school employees sought medical attention for minor injuries, she said after receiving additional information today.

The three students have been suspended from school pending an investigation. "The level of any further discipline will be determined when the investigation is completed," Reines said today.

According to Sheriff's Deputy Mike Vasquez, one student was being escorted by the teacher when two additional students attempted to physically confront the teacher. Vasquez said the case is being sent to the Riverside County Juvenile Probation Department "for disposition and court proceedings."
