News release from the City of Menifee:
Menifee residents will have plenty of opportunities to learn about emergency preparedness through a series of events the City has planned during Emergency Preparedness Week, which begins on Tuesday. Held at the Kay Ceniceros Center, 29995 Evans Road, the events will cover everything from the basics of emergency preparedness to active shooter training.
"We take our role in emergency preparedness and response very seriously," said City Manager Armando Villa. "Our residents look to us to respond to emergency situations and we have to remain prepared for that, but we also want to help them learn what they can do to be prepared for these situations in their own homes."
The week’s first event, an emergency preparedness session, will be held on Tuesday from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and will be presented by the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT). On Wednesday from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department will host an active shooter training.
Residents are encouraged to take part in the Great California ShakeOut on Thursday by practicing the Drop, Cover, Hold earthquake safety technique at home or as part of a group at 10:17 a.m. A basic first aid and CPR demonstration will be held on Friday from 11:30 to 1 p.m. (pre-registration required.)
The event series will conclude on Saturday with the Emergency Preparedness Fair from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Attendees will learn about active shooter preparedness, tips on creating an escape plan and go-kits for emergency situations and see live demonstrations from emergency preparedness professionals. Lunch will be provided for the first 200 attendees and there will be prizes and giveaways.
