Cajon High School's running game chipped away at the Heritage defense and finally took the lead for good early in the third quarter Friday night in a 24-7 nonleague football victory over the visiting Patriots.
Heritage's only score of the game came late in the first quarter on a 2-yard touchdown run by Kenny Teter and Dominic Chacon's PAT kick for a 7-3 lead. The Patriots clung to that lead until midway through the third quarter, when Dylan Jackson ran 3 yards for a touchdown and a 10-7 Cajon lead.
Cajon (2-1) had increased the lead to 17-7 by the end of the quarter, scoring another touchdown on an 8-yard run by Freddie Fletcher. Halfway through the fourth quarter, the Cowboys' final touchdown came on a 49-yard TD pass from Jonathan Calderon to Larenzo McMillan.
Teter finished with 104 yards rushing for Heritage and Adrian Robles contributed 80 yards. Heritage is 1-2 heading into their home opener against Redlands East Valley next Friday.
