Officials of Eastern Municipal Water District and the City of Menifee joined with funding partners and residents recently in celebrating completion of the first phase of a project converting septic to sewer service in Quail Valley.
The rural area, located in the hills above Canyon Lake, was originally a private resort and hunting area. The resort was in its heyday in the 1950s and '60s. Private membership was discontinued by the 1970s. Since Quail Valley's inclusion in Menifee's incorporation in 2008, its residents have been awaiting improvements including street paving and sewer lines.
This project was announced by EMWD officials in November 2017. The recent ribbon cutting ceremony celebrated the septic to sewer conversions for 158 homes and the installation of connection points for another 75 undeveloped parcels, according to Kevin Pearson of EMWD.
Funding for the project was provided by grants from the state, the Regional Water Quality Control Board and the Santa Ana Watershed Project Authority. The City of Menifee provided road paving in the area. EMWD has applied for additional grant funds for the planning and design of the next phase of the project.
