Using a police dog to help end a short standoff in the Rustlers Ranch community of Menifee, Sheriff's deputies took into custody the suspect in a residential burglary Thursday night, authorities said.
Deputies responded at 10:12 p.m. to the report of a burglary in progress at a residence in the 29700 block of Buena Tierra, according to a Sheriff's Department spokesperson. Deputies found an open window and believed a suspect was inside the residence.
After deputies made several demands for the suspect to surrender, K9 deputies entered the residence. The police dog located and bit the lone suspect. That suspect was treated, arrested and booked for residential burglary. The identity of the suspect was not immediately released.
This was the second police standoff ended by a K9 unit in Menifee Thursday night. About three miles away, a police dog found and bit a suspect who had barricaded himself for about eight hours in a residence on Serpens Court. That suspect was treated at a hospital for his injury and was booked into jail for felony warrants.
