Nearly 100 firefighters on 13 engine crews and aerial support stopped the spread of a wildland fire at 96 acres with no injuries or structural damage Saturday in Nuevo.
The Orange Fire included a charred section of open field at the side of the road in the 27000 block of Orange Avenue. Flames popped up in several hot spots in adjacent hills and was fueled by the heat and wind.
The fire was reported at 10:36 a.m. as a quarter-acre burning at a slow rate of speed, but it spread to 50 acres by 12:30 p.m., according to Cal Fire officials. One hundred percent containment was announced at 3:13 p.m., at which time it had covered 96 acres.
Cause of the fire is under investigation.
