Top boxers from the southwest U.S. will gather this weekend for "Menifee's Main Event", a three-day tournament featuring 460 boxers ages 8 to adult in a championship format.
The event will be held at the Valley-wide Recreation and Park District gym at 28545 La Piedra Road Friday night and Saturday and Sunday afternoons. Competitors from California, Nevada, Arizona and foreign countries will take part in different weight divisions for championship belts.
"Menifee's Main Event" is presented by Pala Resort and Title Boxing and is hosted by the Riverside County Boxing Club, based in Canyon Lake.
Opening Ceremonies Friday at noon will feature the Perris High School ROTC Color Guard. Boxing will resume Saturday at noon and at noon again on Sunday, which will be dedicated to the Armed Forces. Ticket prices are $15 general admission and $6 for children. Ringside seats cost $25.
The event is sanctioned by the USA Boxing Association, which is governed by the U.S. Olympic Boxing Team. Professional boxers will be in attendance, including Fernando Vargas and Antonio Diaz.
