Girl Scout Troop seeks donations for humanitarian project

The 7th grade Cadette members of Girl Scout Troop 2421 were recognized at the June 19 Menifee City Council meeting for the work they are doing to earn their Silver Award -- the second highest award in Girl Scouting.

The Troop, based in Menifee and Lake Elsinore, is collecting donations of bolts or 3-yard cuts of fleece (only) fabric; waterproof drawstring backpacks; and cash donations or gift cards to purchase fabric. The girls will be making 250 care kits for the underprivileged and homeless.

Each kit will include a homemade blanket, resource book of opportunities in the community and a waterproof backpack. The project is called "Friendship in Action".

The Girl Scouts also led the audience in the Pledge of Allegiance at the City Council meeting.
