Eastern Municipal Water District wants to help our customers continue to be water wise.
This Spring, EMWD launched its WaterWise Plus program, which is a comprehensive and forward-thinking approach toward assisting our customers and partner agencies with finding new and cost-effective ways to become even more efficient.
The program – with its slogan of “Doing more with your H2O” – integrates EMWD’s existing water use efficiency-based programs with long-term solutions that are promoted regardless of drought conditions. These programs help customers make lifestyle changes to their water use habits on an annual basis. As a result, customers will be able to become more efficient with their use, gain a better understanding of how much water they use, and also better manage their monthly bills.
“EMWD wants to make every possible resource available to our customers so they will be able to participate in efficiency programs that best meet their needs,” EMWD Board President Ron Sullivan said. “By promoting a wide range of programs for all customer types, we are able to realize significant and sustained water savings for our region.”
EMWD offers a wide range of programs for residential customers, including:
-- Participation in The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California’s turf removal rebate program, which provides $2 per square foot of turf removed and replaced with approved landscaping;
-- EMWD offers water-efficient devices for free or with a rebate. These include weather-based irrigation controllers, deep watering tree takes or rebates on water-efficient appliances;
-- Customers may view EMWD’s Demonstration Garden during normal working hours to obtain ideas on a variety of landscape options that are water efficient and sustainable in the regional microclimate.
EMWD is also working with government agencies and the business community to develop longterm sustainable approaches to help some of EMWD’s largest customers see the same benefits that the average household may realize.
For example, EMWD is partnering with the cities it serves – and the County of Riverside – to introduce a landscape transformation program. This will promote investments in climate-appropriate landscaping in commercial, industrial and institutional areas through turf replacement programs that will also provide low-maintenance templates that may be adopted by homeowners throughout the region.
Replacing non-functional turf – grass that provides no recreational benefit and is for decorative purposes only – with water efficient landscaping helps to make our region more sustainable, providing a direct benefit to all customers through preservation of the region’s water supplies.
EMWD is also partnering with our local agricultural customers to better understand current irrigation practices and incorporate programs that will further assist local farmers in managing their water use.
