More than 700 community members volunteered their time Saturday in one of the city's most successful annual events -- "Menifee Better Together".
The eighth annual event sent registered volunteers to 50 homes of seniors in the Sun City community in Menifee to pull weeds, clear brush, do exterior painting and perform other tasks to help shut-ins and other residents. The project was coordinated in conjunction with Habit of Humanity Inland Valley.
At the same time, other volunteers worked at Kabian Park in Quail Valley, accepting loads of trash brought by residents and filling dump trucks donated for the day by Waste Management. Meanwhile, others were building and painting children's playhouses for donation to the volunteer firehouse day care center in Quail Valley and other sites.
Volunteers also helped clean up a storage area at the Community Cupboard Thrift Store, making room for more donated items. Children too young to volunteer for the other projects assembled flower pots to donate to residents whose homes were cleaned up.
In addition to City of Menifee officials, Riverside County Supervisor Jeff Hewitt attended the event. Breakfast was provided by employees of Miller Jones Mortuary, and lunch was provided by employees of Evans Brown Mortuary.
For video highlights of the event, watch "Good Morning Menifee" Monday at 9 a.m. on the Menifee 24/7 Facebook page.
