Paloma Valley High School wrestlers did very well in CIF Southern Section postseason competition last weekend.
Wildcat boys wrestlers placed fifth as a team out of 47 schools at the CIF Eastern Division finals. That ties for the highest finish in Paloma Valley wrestling history, said coach Luis Robles. The Wildcats qualified five wrestlers for the Masters Meet this weekend at Cerritos College. Overall, six wrestlers placed in the meet.
The group of qualifiers was led by Savion Dixon, who won a CIF-SS championship at 120 pounds and was named MVP of the lower weight division. He became the first male CIF champion in any sport in Paloma Valley history.
The boys wrestlers who placed were:
Savion Dixon (120) - CIF Champion, Lower Weight MVP
Cole Acosta (126) - third place (first Paloma Valley wrestler to be three-time CIF placer)
Brent Turnwall (145) - third place
Conor Peterson (152) - seventh place
Ricardo Perez (170) - sixth place
Isreal Webster - CIF runner-up
The girls team excelled at the Eastern Conference qualifier tournament. Of 13 Wildcats competing, 11 qualified for this weekend's CIF-SS finals at Roosevelt High School. That is the program's best finish in its four-year history.
Girls who qualified are:
Jayden Von Moos
Alyssa Guardiola
Jade Cavner-Rojas
Luisita Jara
