Longtime Sun City community leader Vicki Kelly, who advocated for seniors and the disabled, passed away on Sunday.
Kelly published a newsletter called the Town Crier, which reported local events in the Menifee area.
"Vicki Kelly was a champion for the Sun City Community and the surrounding areas," said Gloria Sanchez, who serves as chairperson of the Menifee Senior Advisory Committee. "She regularly attended the Senior Advisory Committee meetings, advocating for a better life for seniors and the disabled community.
"She brought attention to the needs of those who were wheelchair bound and made sure to always remind leaders that all public places should be ADA compliment. She will be missed as a loving person and a great advocate for seniors."
Menifee Mayor Bill Zimmerman also has fond memories of Kelly and her dedication to the community.
"Vicki Kelly and I crossed paths often," Zimmerman said. "She was a sweet lady who had a passion for promoting local events and social activities in Menifee. Vicki created a monthly email publication, the Town Crier, that listed things to do in town. She was a valuable member of Sun City's Coordinating Council, where representatives from each of the Core area's social clubs meet together to share updates about their upcoming activities.
"Vicki did not let her mobility constraints hinder her ability to be involved and informed. The RTA drivers know her well, and she was often seen in her wheelchair at Senior Advisory Committee meetings at City Hall and enjoying being a part of our community of friendly caring people."
No other details are available at this time.
