Robert Harling’s heartfelt comedy “Steel Magnolias” is the next production to be performed by the Heritage High School drama department.
The play, set in a late 80’s Louisiana beauty shop, follows one woman’s struggle with a life-threatening condition, and displays its effects on those closest to her. The show is performed on a small-scale stage, surrounded by the audience, who are merely a foot away.
Director Greg Newman sees the intimacy of the space as both a blessing and major acting challenge. The proximity allows the audience to feel a deeper connection with the actors, creating an immersive experience.
The performance dates are Jan. 18, 19, 25 and 26 at 7:30 p.m. at Heritage High School, located at 26000 Briggs Road in Menifee. Presale tickets cost $6 for students and $8 general admission. At the door, they cost $8 for students and $10 general admission. For ticket information, call the school at 951-940-5447.
