Railroad Canyon Road expansion project begins Jan. 7

Crews will begin construction Jan. 7 on a project to widen a stretch of Railroad Canyon Road in Lake Elsinore to three lanes each way.

The City of Lake Elsinore announced details about the project, which will have a major impact on traffic flowing into and out of Menifee from the west. The curving roadway through the canyon has been the site of many traffic accidents in recent years. This project will not only widen the roadway, but will make pavement improvements, create new drainage systems and increase safety.

Road work will take place between Canyon Hills Road and Grape Street, just east of the 15 Freeway. The first phase will include work on the westbound lanes. Construction will take place between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and will require occasional lane closures. The project is estimated to be completed by mid-April.
