Menifee man arrested on drug, weapons charges

A Menifee man was booked on multiple weapons and drug charges on Thursday after he was found with a loaded handgun and an illegal substance during a traffic stop, authorities said.

Freddie Josef Castro, 28, was stopped by Menifee Special Enforcement Team officers about 4:10 p.m. at the intersection of McCall Boulevard and Bradley Road in Menifee, according to a Sheriff's Department news release. In addition to the loaded handgun, he was in possession of over an ounce of methamphetamine.

During a subsequent search of Castro's residence in the 29000 block of Buena Tierra, officers located additional drugs, ammunition and a revolver. Castro was arrested and booked at the Cois Byrd Detention Center in Murrieta.

Castro is being held in lieu of $1 million bail. He has a Dec. 31 court date in Riverside.
