Driver charged with DUI after traffic fatality on Encanto Drive

Encanto Drive was closed between Ethanac Road and McCall Blvd. for several hours following a traffic fatality on Encanto near Ethanac early Sunday morning.

The accident took place just after 1 a.m., when a vehicle struck a pedestrian. The victim, an adult female, died in the accident, according to Sheriff's Deputy Robyn Flores.

The driver of the vehicle was arrested and booked on a DUI charge, Flores said. The identity of the victim has not been released.

This was the second fatality of a pedestrian when struck by a vehicle in an eight-hour period. A pedestrian died when struck by a vehicle on Highway 74 near Third Street about 5:24 Saturday night.
