The suspect in a Menifee murder who was at large has been shot and killed while resisting arrest, police said.
Jesus "Chuy" Guzman, 34, one of two men suspected in the Feb. 5 murder of Silvano Esteves in his Romoland community home, was shot when he brandished a gun at officers who approached him to make an arrest. The shooting occurred in Charleston View, a town near the Nevada Border, according to an L.A. County Sheriff's news release. Homicide detectives and U.S. Marshals officers confronted Guzman Thursday morning.
Detectives had been following leads since Oct. 11, when a search of Guzman's property near Lancaster by Sheriff's deputies located human remains. Guzman (right) was wanted for questioning in that case and the murder of Esteves, who was found dead in his home in the 27700 block of Monroe Avenue in what was described as a botched home invasion.
Rodolfo Garcia, 35, of Perris was arrested Oct. 29 in connection with the Menifee case after members of the Sheriff's Department SWAT team served a "high risk" search warrant in the 21600 block of Club Drive in Perris, according to a news release. Garcia was arrested without incident and was booked on murder charges. Until Thursday, Guzman had been on the loose and was considered armed and dangerous.
Investigators located a large amount of marijuana on the property and believe the suspects targeted the victim as a result.
