Valley View's Eagles scored in the game's final minute Friday night to beat Paloma Valley 44-42 in the final football game of the regular season.
The win was the first league victory for the visiting Eagles, who are 3-7 overall. Paloma Valley finishes the regular season 5-5 overall and 0-3 in the Wildcats' first season in the Ivy League.
Valley View took a 38-35 lead in the shootout on a 12-yard run by quarterback Jacob Barlaga with 4:17 remaining, but Paloma Valley wasn't finished. The Wildcats regained the lead at 42-38 on a 26-yard touchdown run by Dereus Dortch with 3:09 remaining. Dortch rushed for 196 yards and four touchdowns in the game.
The Eagles' winning drive was capped off by an 8-yard run by Anthony Funches with about a minute left in the game for a 44-42 lead. The Wildcats tried to mount a last-minute drive, but quarterback Mason Carvalho was intercepted to end the threat.
Barlage had a huge game for Valley View, passing for 370 yards and two touchdowns and running for two scores. Carvalho passed for 133 yards for Paloma Valley.
