Some of man's best friends dress up for Dog Daze

From bumblebees to Star Wars characters and even a bride and groom, "roughly" 40 dogs were dressed in their best costumes during the Valley-Wide Recreation and Park District's Fifth Annual Dog Daze Saturday at Aldergate Park in Menifee.

Some 200 people and their pets came to the free event to show off their costumes and visit with vendors.

Prizes were awarded to the cutest, scariest, best costume and judges' choice for small, medium and large dogs. Among the winners were a basset hound in a hot dog outfit, a poodle and its owner, wearing matching poodle skirts, and two dogs dressed as a bride and groom.

Aldergate Park, which opened in 2010 thanks to a grassroots effort, offers a large, fenced-in area where dogs can run around off-leash and a smaller shy/small dog area. There also is a ball diamond, pickle ball courts, a tot-lot and restrooms.
