Santa Rosa Academy took a 12-0 lead and held on despite 8 points scored in the fourth quarter by the opposition Friday night in a 12-8 football victory over Firebaugh High of Lynwood.
Timothy Marlow scored on a 19-yard touchdown play early in the second quarter for a 6-0 lead by the Rangers (a 2-point PAT run failed). On the second play after Santa Rosa kicked off to Firebaugh, the Rangers' Quincy Medor intercepted a pass to give the ball back to Santa Rosa.
The Rangers had to punt at the end of that possession, but on Firebaugh's first play of the next series, Joshua Herrera returned an interception 73 yards for a touchdown and a 12-0 lead. The only other scoring of the game came on a touchdown pass and 2-point PAT by Firebaugh with two minutes left in the game.
The win was Santa Rosa's first of the season after three losses. The Rangers' next game will take place Sept. 21 at Calvary Murrieta.
