Trevor Painton, assistant superintendent with the Romoland School District the last five years, was appointed district superintendent by the Board of Trustees on Sept. 11.
Painton, who has served 23 years in public education, succeeds Dr. Julie Vitale, who resigned in July to take a similar position with the Oceanside Unified School District.
Charged with overseeing the operations of four elementary schools and one middle school, Painton said he will lead the effort to facilitate further growth in the district and provide students with quality curriculum and technology. He will also oversee a Master Plan that calls for an additional school in the near future.
Construction of new homes surrounding the Heritage Lake community and the Monument Ranch area across the freeway in Perris calls for the planning of a new school, but Painton says overcrowding is not a problem at any of the district schools at this time.
"We will be diligent about facilitating our needs projection for the next school," he said. "No location has been identified. We are developing our Facilities Master Plan and are looking at potential projects."
Painton praised the district efforts in technology, which provides take-home Chromebooks for middle school students and access to computers for elementary school students. He said existing facilities will also be upgraded to accommodate new technology.
"We will have audio-visual equipment and wireless capability in our classrooms," he said. "Romoland Elementary is just wrapping up with its infrastructure project."
Painton has been serving as interim superintendent this school year in addition to his previous duties. He looks forward to the challenge of focusing on his primary responsibilities.
"We are celebrating our growth, but it's time to get back to work," he said. "The board has set a great vision for the district. I'm pleased with our cycle of continuous improvements in the district."
