Containment of the Holy Fire increased to 41 percent and evacuations of some communities have been lifted, fire officials said Saturday.
The fire has spread to 22,714 acres but a cooling trend the last two days has helped firefighters in their efforts to protect homes in the Lake Elsinore area, said Fire Chief Geoff Pemberton, incident commander for the Riverside County Fire Department at the fire scene.
Pemberton said he has reports of some minor damage to homes on the Riverside County side of the Santa Ana Mountain range, but damage assessment has not been completed. He could not confirm if any homes in the Lake Elsinore area had been lost.
More than 22,000 people were originally evacuated from their homes. Evacuation orders have been lifted only for the following communities, according to the Cleveland National Forest Service: Horsethief, McVicker and Rice areas with Mountain Street at Avocado Way closed at pavement in Lake Elsinore.
