Police seek public's help regarding unsolved murder

Sheriff's Department investigators are asking for the public's help with an unsolved murder case in Menifee.

Aug. 5 marked the six-month anniversary of the murder of Menifee resident Silvano Gutierrez Esteves, 43 (below), who was killed at his home in the 27700 block of Monroe Avenue in the Romoland community during an attempted home invasion robbery Feb. 5. Witnesses described seeing several males fleeing the property after the homicide, which occurred about 12:48 a.m., according to a Sheriff's Department news release.

A large amount of marijuana was found on the property. Investigators believe that could be the reason the suspects targeted the victim.
