As a heat wave smothers Southwest Riverside County, residents of Menifee got another look at the effects of a disastrous wildfire in the region.

A large plume of smoke filled the sky west of Menifee Valley as the Holy Fire, which began in Holy Jim Canyon and Trabuco Canyon, spread to 4,000 by mid-evening Monday with 0 percent containment, according to fire officials. Two firefighters have been injured and at least one structure destroyed.

The fire has spread from Orange County into Riverside County. It was first reported about 1:30 p.m. near Holy Jim Canyon and Trabuco Creek roads, according to the U.S. Forest Service.
