The California Highway Patrol is looking for the driver who fled the scene of an accident that killed a bicyclist on Scott Road just east of the Menifee city limits.
The accident occurred sometime between Wednesday night and Thursday morning, according to a CHP news release. About 9:30 a.m. Thursday, a passerby discovered the body of a man authorities say was killed as he rode a bicycle eastbound on Scott Road about a mile east of Leon Road. The body was discovered on the south shoulder of the roadway.
The victim's identity is not known at this time. He is described as a white male, approximately 50-55 years old, with a thin build of about 135 pounds. Local residents reported that they often saw the man riding a bicycle in the area and carrying a gas can. A gas can was discovered not far from the body.
If anyone has any information as to the identity of this man or information that could lead to the discovery of the driver that struck and killed him, they should contact Officer Strom at the Temecula CHP office, 951-506-2000.
