The following is a news release from the Riverside County Sheriff's Department:
The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department -- Perris Station and Menifee Police Department, Perris Police Department, and Canyon Lake Police Department -- would like to remind the public that the possession and/or use of fireworks is illegal in the unincorporated communities of Riverside County and the Cities of Menifee, Perris, and Canyon Lake.
ALL fireworks, including sparklers, are illegal. Agencies throughout Riverside County are enforcing zero tolerance for fireworks possession. Persons caught with fireworks are subject to arrest, citation, and fines. "You light it, We write it."
Fireworks also pose a significant fire danger. Due to recent weather conditions, the vegetation is very dry, and fireworks can easily start a brush fire. Individuals who cause fires by using fireworks will be held criminally and civilly responsible for all suppression costs. Suppression costs can run into the millions of dollars. Fireworks can also cause serious injuries to people, pets, and livestock.
Although fireworks might be legal in surrounding counties and cities, citizens are also prohibited from purchasing fireworks elsewhere and transporting them into Riverside County. California Fire Marshal approved "Safe and Sane" fireworks are also illegal in all unincorporated areas of Riverside County.
