Pedestrian struck, killed by hit-and-run driver on Highway 74

A pedestrian died at the scene after being struck by a vehicle that fled following the collision on Highway 74 near Briggs Road in Menifee Saturday morning, police said.

The accident victim, identified only as a 27-year-old male from Perris, was walking westbound in the No. 2 lane of Highway 74 when he was struck about 1:04 a.m., according to a Sheriff's Department news release. A portion of Highway 74 was closed temporarily during the investigation and re-opened at 6:30 a.m.
