Menifee 24/7 honors area high school athletes for their accomplishments. Coaches of each sport are invited to submit one athlete per week for recognition. Here is this week's honoree from Paloma Valley High School:

Tennis player Carter Portman entered the week tied with teammate Anthony Madrazo as the top singles player in the Sunbelt League. He opened the league season with 3-0 singles sweeps wins against Temescal Canyon, Lakeside and Elsinore.

Senior pitcher Trevor Bateson threw a one-hit complete game shutout over Lakeside last week. That gave him a 2-0 record for the season.
