Two women believed responsible for the theft of an 85-year-old Menifee woman's wallet from her purse in a local supermarket were arrested Wednesday and face multiple charges, police said.
Officers tracked down the two suspects at an address in the City of Perris and made the arrests after investigation into the Feb. 20 incident, in which a suspect is seen on surveillance video reaching into the cart of a woman and stealing a wallet from her purse without her knowledge. The theft took place at a Stater Bros. market at the corner of Newport Road and Menifee Road.
A still photo from the video (right) was widely circulated on social media in recent days. Officers determined the original suspect may not have acted alone.
Domonique Porche Richmond, 26, and Deidre Yvonne Smith, 44, both of San Bernardino, were booked at the Cois Byrd Detention Center in Murrieta.
