Pedestrian struck by vehicle on Murrieta Road dies at scene

A pedestrian died after being struck by a vehicle early Wednesday morning on Murrieta Road in Menifee, police said.

A vehicle was driving northbound on Murrieta Road at Floyd Avenue about 4 a.m. when it struck a woman who was walking in the middle of the lane, according to a Sheriff's Department news release. Emergency responders attempted life-saving measures upon arrival but the victim was pronounced dead at the scene. She was identified as Zena Greenhalgh, 51 of Homeland.

Alcohol or drugs do not appear to be a factor in the collision, police said. Murrieta Road was closed for several hours during the investigation.
