Connor Dougherty completed his final wrestling season at Santa Rosa Academy as the first wrestler at Santa Rosa to record over 100 wins, and the first wrestler in the Arrowhead League to place in the CIF finals.
The Rangers' wrestling program began six years ago. Dougherty has been part of the team for all four years of his high school career, leading the team as captain for the past three years.
"Connor had an outstanding senior year," said wrestling coach Julio Rodriguez. "He truly has set the standard high for the future of SRA wrestling. What I will miss about him the most is his willingness to put in the time on and off the mat to make himself better without complaining."
For the duration of the season, Dougherty inspired and carried the team, which culminated on Feb. 16 when he became the first Santa Rosa athlete and first wrestler in the Arrowhead League to place in CIF.
Although Dougherty advanced to Masters, he did not qualify for the State Tournament.
During his career, Dougherty won a total of 125 matches, only suffering 41 losses. He also earned 30 tournament medals, 17 of which were gold medals.
Dougherty also received numerous awards, including the Memorial Nationals Champion, the San Bernardino County Champion, and the Warrior Award. For three consecutive years, he was the Arrowhead League champion, as well as being undefeated in League.
Although Dougherty’s high school season is over, he will always be remembered as an outstanding wrestler, captain, and pioneer in the Santa Rosa Academy wrestling program.
